New England makes a killing off Green Bay

by Marc Faletti on 04/25/09

In the immortal words of Bloom, “Clay Matthews was a special teamer for 3 years.” Now he’s worth a second rounder and 2 third rounders, apparently.

The Packers have a player who belongs in the 3-4, but this was a steep price to pay for a player who lacks explosion or other distinguishing tools.

People peek at different times in their careers.  Matthews has great pedigree and walked onto USC.  I’m sure he could have started all four years somewhere else, however he chose to play at an elite school.  To work your way up and start your senior season without a scholarship at USC is quite the feat.  Only time will tell about this trade.
