Jarron Gilbert should have been picked already

by Marc Faletti on 04/25/09

And not because he can jump out of a pool or do a 360 off-vert dunk on a regulation hoop.  He’s so versatile - in a 3-4 he’s a penetrator from the DE position, and a 4-3 D could use him outside on run downs and move him in on 3rd down.  He destroys guards with quicks and leverage.

The WAC Co-Defensive Player of the year needs more love.  We like him a lot more than the Ravens choice of Paul Kruger.

Agreed.  Was hoping the Jets would trade up to get him.

2. Andrew Garda says:

Agreed - hurt badly perhaps by the Jets not being in the second round.

3. 5-ish says:

I’d really have rather had him than Ziggy Hood if the Steelers are only willing to take on DLiner on day one.

I’d take him anyway if he’s there at #64 if I were Pitty.  Totally reload the damn DL, then nuclear bomb the OL with most of the day 2 picks. Grab a Joe Burnett type in 4 or 5.

They won’t do it. Too radical.

6. 5-ish says:

I don’t mind the trade down at all.

Given who’s still available, they have a decent shot at someone who’s there right now in 15 more picks(Meredith, Gilbert, Moore, some of the guards, etc.). Then have an extra bullet a few picks later.

Just sucks we had to wait all night to see them make a trade.

8. DV says:

Gilbert was one of the players the Lions invited for a visit, like they did their other picks in this draft.

Never can tell, but odds are good he’s the first pick taken in the third round by the Leos.
